Re: Operation Christmas Child

Hi Brittainee,
Can you let us know what and where the Leader Meeting is that you are talking about? I think this is a great opportunity and organization! Thank you!

Coronado National Forest (Fire Prevention)

Les Harmon
Santa Catalina Ranger District
5700 N Sabino Canyon Road
520.730.5937

My group of bridging Juniors and Cadettes were up on the mountain at Rose Canyon Lake this last weekend. Les and a colleague brought up a forest fire rig and crew and spoke to my girls about what they do, the education it takes to have their jobs as well as how the air around them affects their job and the fires they monitor or fight. We were working through the Breathe Journey. My girls loved speaking with the group (2 of the 5 were women) and Les said they would be happy to meet with other troops either on the mountain or at the Sabino Canyon location.

PS - they LOVE Girl Scout cookies!!!!

Games, Rainy Days and Story Starters

Since my first year of becoming a Girl Scout Leader I've used these cards! They are awesome when girls finish our activities early or things just don't go as planned. There's also those occasions when I just don't have the brain power to come up with something fabulous! You can print them on card stock and put them on a ring to make them more compact and portable. I found these on ScoutingWeb.com.

Last Minute Projects

What do you do when you realize it's troop night and you have about an hour to prepare?! How about a fun, relaxing craft night? Girls LOVE to craft with no goals of earning badges or patches sometimes. Having fun and working together builds sisterhood and bonds our girls' friendships even further.

Friday, we found some ring bases and the girls got super creative with glass beads, rhinestones, buttons and glue. Our Mother's Day rings turned out FABULOUS! Who knew 5th through 7th graders could be so creative? Ok, me!

So, what do you do for last minutes ideas?????

Trees for Tucson

Trees for Tucson is part of the Tucson Clean and Beautiful organization. Tucson Clean and Beautify offers several programs from recycling, adopting a street or part or buffelgrass removal. Trees for Tucson can help your group learn more about trees, caring for them, planting, what trees work best in our environment, how they improve our life and how Tucson residents can get trees at a lower cost or free. Contact Dawna Gravley at dawna@treesfortucson.org or Kattie Gannon at katie.gannon@treesfortucson.org for more information.
