Want some STEM programming for your troop?

Attention all troops! Do your girls love science and want to learn more about Optical Science? We have developed a relationship with Graduate student Isela Holett from the University of Arizona. She would love to come to your troop meeting and facilitate a few of her activities! Below is some info about her program.

Inspiring the interest of science and mathematics in young girls is a large objective of mine as I have seen firsthand the lower rate at which females enter the STEM fields. I would like to work with the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona to engage young girls between the ages of 9 and 12 in STEM through a focus on optical science.

I have reduced the previous Bringing Optics to Light course list into a concentrated 1 to 1.5 hour long session which will explore 3D images and Polarization.
1. 3D Vision and Imaging: Introduction to Human Vision and the creation of Cyan-Red 3D images. A view of some of the Mars surface with 3D glasses.
2. Polarization: Polarized Light Collage

To schedule a troop visit please contact:

This is from a community partner - Wings of Hope - pass it along!

I wanted to share with you that we just had Troop 81 collect food for us and they earned their Philanthropy badge. We are also looking for a troop to earn their badge by starting her community garden. If you could please pass the word on and send in the troop leaders our way. They can reach me at 272-5250. Thank you for all you do!
