Arizona Foundation for Women Supporting Girl Scouts
We would like to thank the Arizona Foundation for Women for their $4,000 grant to support the Girl Scouts Adelante Jovencitas and Girl Scouts Beyond Bars Social Justice Programs. GSSoAz’s Social Justice Program helps girls gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors that will help them succeed in a difficult and complex world. Our goal is to help girls through any means possible to avoid facing a future that lacks hope and promise and to break the familial cycle of incarceration. The program provides a safe and supportive environment where girls can hear words of encouragement, learn to develop healthy relationships, and to set and achieve goals.
Our program serves girls ages 5-17 who are among the most vulnerable in the community; those whose lives have been impacted by the Juvenile Justice System including those in detention and at-risk for incarceration, those referred by the Community Justice Board, and girls with incarcerated parents.
AFW’s previous support has helped us grow from one program in Pima County serving 30 girls to serving more than 500 girls in 3 counties.
